Among efforts to revive tourism, Mexico City will provide health coverage for visitors -- not only treatment for swine flu, but any other health problems that arise while visiting the city, including any surgery or emergency room visits that may be necessary -- according to a report in the Spanish-language periodical Milenio. Alejandro Rojas, Mexico City's Secretary of Tourism, said the city will rely on the "good faith" of visitors not to abuse the system by seeking treatment for prior issues or by other means. "I believe that the people who want to visit our city do so in good faith," Rojas said, "because they know they'll find a hospitable city with a rich heritage."

"Tourists are insured from the moment they register with their hotel, travel agency, or the Mexico City Secretary of Tourism," explained Mr. Rojas.

This comes on the heels of a plan presented by Mexican President Felipe Calderón to revitalize tourism in his country. The "Vive México" (Mexico Lives) campaign will involve an investment of 200 million pesos, or about 20 million dollars, in media efforts to attract tourists. President Calderón stated that this effort will be to attract tourists that are "not only international, but also, and especially, that we Mexicans visit our own cities, our own states, that we visit our parks, our theaters, our tourist centers, our restaurants, that we thus give new impulse to all these activities, which are the livelihood of hundreds of thousands of families."
